Why we’re all keen to preserve The Elephant
The town centre near the deluxe Elephant & Castle properties will house a Sainsbury’s store and numerous retail outlets
The arrival of a giant Sainsbury's store is the latest development in the exciting £3 billion regeneration programme which is currently underway at Elephant & Castle. The store will be part of the Elephant’s new town centre, close to the existing shopping centre and the railway station.
The pedestrianised town centre site will provide a focal point for a wider programme of regeneration that promises to transform the area and providing: a market square, 5,000 new homes, new retail, cultural and educational spaces, an integrated public transport hub and a new, green outdoor space, Elephant Park, which will be the largest new park to be developed in central London for seventy years.
A number of high profile organisations have joined together to lead the vision for the town centre project. Partners include Delancey, Allies and Morrison, the London College of Communication and University of the Arts London. While their aim is to improve Elephant & Castle, they are emphatic that they don’t want to change the character of the area.
Stafford Lancaster, investment director at Delancey, says the project’s aim is "essentially to create a town centre in an area that’s already vibrant: a really interesting part of London.”
As estate agents covering Elephant & Castle, Daniel Cobb’s sales and lettings teams have been watching with great interest as the new town centre slowly takes shape. Residential developments in and around this district, exemplify the care that has been taken to provide high quality, luxury accommodation at the heart of this buzzing urban area.
