What’s On This Weekend: Day Of The Dead, Lambeth Fireworks & Cerith Wyn Evans Exhibition

Day of The Dead in Waterloo

This weekend, Wahaca the Mexican food restaurant and Morning Gloryville are joining forces in a very special collaboration to celebrate the tradition of Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. Not to be confused with Halloween, this indigenous tradition dates back over 3000 years and has roots in both Aztec and Mayan tradition as well as Catholic observance. Now celebrated throughout Latin America, it is a two day festival of life and death. Together, they will be taking over The Vaults in Waterloo to put on a spectacular day full of activities including sugar skull face painters, a yoga and wellness zone, a massage station, lots of tasty food and drink, some special guest DJ’s and a special Dia de Los Muertos ceremony. Money raised on the day will go to charities supporting those affected by the recent earthquakes in Mexico.

The London To Brighton Veteran Car Run in Westminster

The Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run takes place this weekend and is a rare opportunity for the public to view 400 pre-1905 vehicles travel on mass along public roads. This is a truly magnificent spectacle that has been taking place since 1896 when Harry Lawson introduced the first motoring club in the UK. Though there are three main checkpoints in London, Crawley and Brighton, specatators can watch anywhere along the 60 mile route. You’ll need to wake up early though, as they will be setting on their journey from Hyde Park at 7.02am. Only a very short walk from our Westminster office, if you’re interested in looking at properties to rent or properties to buy in the area, feel free to drop in and hello to our team who would be happy to help.

Lambeth Fireworks in Brockwell Park

If you’re trying to decide where to head this Guy Faulkes Night, then head to the Lambeth Fireworks in Brockwell Park. This year is extra special as the theme is Night At The Movies. It will be an enchanting evening of fireworks set to some of the greatest and most dramatic movie soundtracks of all history. On top of that what will inevitably turn into a bit of a sing-song, there will also be pre-show entertainment in the form of a funfair and some of London’s best street food. Not far from our Kennington office, drop in and say hello if you’re keen to find out more about properties to rent or properties to buy in the surrounding area.

Age Of Terror Exhibition in Kennington

The Age Of Terror is the UK’s first major exhibition of artists’ responses to war and conflict since the terrorist attacks that took place on 11th Septmber 2001. Featuring more than 40 British and international artists including Ai Weiwei, Grayson Perry, Jenny Holzer and many more, the exhibition focusses on the complex issues surrounding the globalresponse to 9/11, current modern warfare and the continuing state of emergency that we are finding ourselves in. The artists included have found ways to communicate through their art various alternative viewpoints that won’t necessarily have been portrayed through the mainstream media. Highlighting the crucial role of artists representing contemporary conflict, this poignant exhibition is well worth the visit.

Lost Burial Grounds Walk in Southwark

This weekend, Southwark Cathedral are hosting a walking tour of the lost burial grounds of the area. Not many people may know this but Southwark was once home to many burial grounds including plague pits and poor grounds to rural churchyards and graveyards. Telling the story of these burial grounds gives us insight into the people who lived in this area many moons ago as well as the churches and hospitals of the area. This you will learn about include graveyards in front gardens, Southwarks once thriving Flemish community, where Southwark’s dead are now buried and the tomb of Thomas Guy. Guided by historian and author Caroline Swan, this tour takes 1.5 hours. Not far from our London Bridge office, if you’re interested in looking at properties to rent or properties to buy in the area, pop in and have a chat to one of our team who will be happy to help.

If you’re interested in finding out more about future events in Westminster, London, Kennington and the surrounding areas, feel free to drop by any of our offices – we’ll be glad to provide you with a list.
