Jane Eyre at The National Theatre on Southbank
This year marks the 170th anniversary of the very first publication of Jane Eyre written by Charlotte Bronte, so it is poignant that an innovative reimagining of her masterpiece should come to fruition in 2017. Created in collaboration between the National Theatre and Bristol Old Vic, this new stage version directed by Sally Cookson brings together a two-part play into a single performance. After a critically acclaimed season at the National Theatre and UK tour, the play is back to tell the classic story of the spirited heroine who faces life’s obstacles head-on whilst surviving poverty, injustice and betrayal before making the ultimate decision to follow her heart. This bold production portrays one woman’s fight for freedom and well worth going to see.
Fun Palaces at Durning Library in Kennington
Fun Palaces was initially conceived by Joan Littlewood and Cedrice Price in the 1960’s as a temporary and moveable home for the arts and scientists, which would be open to all. However, back then this idea was never able to be completed and has in recent years been re-conceptualised by Stella Duffy and Sarah-Jane Rawlings. Instead of having a permanent building, every October, various locations around London open their doors and put on celebrations and activities for the community. One Fun Palace event will be taking place at the Durning Library on Saturday on Kennington Park Road where there will be lots of fun to be had! Only a very short journey from our Kennington office, drop in and say hello if you’re keen to find out more about properties to rent or properties to buy in the surrounding area.
Glue at Oval House in Oval
If it’s something different you’re looking to do this weekend, then head to the Oval House Theatre to watch a live art performance of Glue. This show is about getting to grips with our family relationships and in turn our identities. Formed around rhythmic poetry, Glue is a gripping true story about Louise Wallwein who grew up in the care of nuns from the age of 9. The story explores her first meetings with her birth mother, 30 years after being put up for adoption and how her world as she knew it turned upside down. This beautiful and complex work tells of how Louise had to learn to fight and is a very frank play. Written and performed by Louise Wallwein and directed by Susan Roberts, this play is worth the trip.
LOOK UP! in London Bridge
LOOK UP! Is a landscape and architecture tour hosted by the RIBA. Landscape Architect and Design educator, Lily Bakratsa will take you on a tour along the Thames Path, starting at Potters Field Park and ending at Tate Modern this Saturday at midday. Lily will encourage you to take a unique look at the London skyline by studying the details of the natural and built landmarks a long the way. This is a perfect way to take plenty of photographs a long the way, but being a professional photographer is not necessary. Not far from our London Bridge office, if you’re interested in looking at properties to rent or properties to buy in the London Bridge area, pop in and have a chat to one of our team who will be happy to help.
Fahrelnissa Zeid Exhibition in London Bridge
It will be your last chance this weekend to catch the fascinating exhibition of Fahrelnissa Zeid’s artwork at Tate Modern. Considered one of the most influential female Turkish artists of all time, she is best known for her large-scale kaleidoscopic, abstract paintings which have been described as a synthesis of Islamic, Byzantine, Arab and Persian influences using stylistic elements that were developed in Europe after the War. This exhibition will be examining the evolution of Zeid’s works, their themes and methods she experimented with throughout her expansive career using lines and dazzling colours.
