What’s On This Weekend: Kennington Park Walk, People Power and Easter Egg Trail

 

Kennington Park Walk in Kennington


On Saturday afternoon from 2-4pm there will be a walk through Kennington Park led by Rob and Marietta, who are both members of the Friends of Kennington Park organisation. The walk will be in memory of the monster rally of the Chartists that took place on Kennington Common on the 10th April 1848 as well as other occasions on history. This is a great opportunity to learn about the park's history, as well as a chance to make some of your own park memories if you're new to the area. Free to the public to join, the Friends of Kennington Park will be welcoming donations on the day. Whisper House at The Other Palace in Westminster


Playing at The Other Palace theatre this weekend is Whisper House, a dark and thrilling muscial ghost story written by Kyle Jarrow and Duncan Sheik, the award-winning composer of American Psycho and Spring Awakening. When Christopher's father's plane is shot down during World War II, he is sent to live with his Aunt Lily and her strange Japanese housekeeper. It isn't long until he starts to hear strange music coming through the wall... People Power at Imperial War Museum in Kennington


Only a short walk from our Kennington office is the Imperial War Museum, who are currently holding a new exhibition called People Power. This exhibition explores how peace movements from as far back as the First World War to the present day, have influenced perceptions of war and conflict. From modern marches, to peace camps and conscientious objectors, People Power tells the stories of many passionate people over the last hundred years and their struggles of enduring the anti-war cause. The paintings, literature, posters, banners, music and more show the creativity involved in these protest movements and how they reflected the cultural mood of each era.

Easter Egg Trail at Hays Galleria in London Bridge

Fantasy High Street will be hosting their third annual Easter Egg Trail at Hays Galleria this weekend in London Bridge. Follow hidden clues, meet unusual characters and enjoy taking part in silly games whilst finding some delicious chocolate eggs along the way. Whilst the trail is perfect for 5 to 10 year olds, this day out is great for the whole family as they can get involved in exploring this beautiful area on the River Thames and take in the sights of this historical and industrial part of London completely free of charge. Josef Frank at the Fashion & Textile Museum in London Bridge

Explore the expansive body of work of designer and artist Josef Frank in this first ever UK exhibition of his textiles. Moving to Sweden in 1933, Frank developed his own colourful brand of modernism, working with Estrid Ericson on furniture, lighting, glassware and interior design ideas. Together they reinvented what is regarded as Swedish Modern and plays a heavy role in the Scandi chic look that many people try to accomplish in their own homes today. The exhibition also shares a little about his history as an Austrian Jew who had to flee Vienna for Stockholm. If you're looking for some interior design inspiration, the Fashion & Textile Museum is worth a visit this weekend.

Behind The Scenes Tour at Royal Festival Hall on Southbank


If you're a keen visitor of the Royal Festival Hall, you might be interested in their Behind The Scenes Tour that the Southbank Centre will be offering over the next couple of weeks. As one of the most popular cultural destinations in the country, hosting thousands of performances every year, this unique tour will offer insight into the history of the sight and also the people who have shaped it. Only a short distance from our Westminster office across the Thames, follow in the footsteps of world-famous orchestras and artists and hear interesting stories from the tour guides. Every tour will be slightly different depending on the events being held in the hall each day, and well worth a visit.
