Michael Jackson: On The Wall Exhibition in Covent Garden

If you’re a fan of Michael Jackson then you might be interested in visiting the new exhibition Michael Jackson: On The Wall on this summer at the National Portrait Gallery. Opened to coincide with what would have been his 60th birthday in August, this landmark exhibition will explore the influence of Michael Jackson on some of the leading names in contemporary art. Since Andy Warhol first used his image in 1982, he has become the most depicted cultural figure in visual art by an extraordinary array of leading contemporary artists. For the first time, all of these artworks will be brought together for this special event. Adam’s Antiques Fair in Victoria

The ‘Horti’ as it is also known, is home to the longest running Sunday antiques fair in London, Adam’s Antiques. The historic Lindley Hall which is part of the Royal Horticultural Halls in Victoria plays host to traders who come from all over the UK and Europe. This month, the dealers will be specialising in fine jewellery, silver, paintings as well as various other items. With over 140 stands selling a wide variety of decorative and ancient pieces, this is a fun way to discover some hidden treasures. If you’re keen to learn about the antiques trade and pick up on some of their insider secrets, then this is the place to be. Open from 10am to 4.30pm, head down there and you might just find yourself a hidden gem.

Waterloo Carnival in Waterloo

This year is the fifteenth annual Waterloo Carnival which take place this Friday on Millenium Green. An annual summer event, this intergenerational day aims to build community, encourage creativity and include those who are more isolated through workshops, music, dancing and a magnificent carnival procession. Starting on Tanswell Street and ending on the Waterloo Millenium Green, the procession engages at least 500 performers including local schools, local residents and other local groups including senior members of the community. The organisers partnet with groups such as Mandinga Arts and the London School of Samba which brings real flair to event. If you’re in the area, join the festivities during your lunchtime and support the community. Head back to Millenium Green on Saturday to also take part in the Bastille Day celebrations.

Sounds & Sourcery in Waterloo

This year, Mickey Mouse will be celebrating his 90th anniversary and in spirit, Sounds and Sorcery have put together a new immersive experience of Disney’s FANSTASIA in The Vaults, Waterloo. At this special event you will walk through a prehistoric wasteland, and chase the fairies in a forest of ethereal dreams. Each audience member will wear a pair of headphones as they are guided by a 96-piece orchestra, playing the classic soundtrack from the original film. This interactive journey has been created using elaborate set design, 3D projections and spectacular lighting effects. Head to the tunnels underneath Waterloo station to experience a new and exhilarating way of going to a concert with this stunning installation. Don’t Look Back In Anger Exhibition in Southwark

This Friday at The Underdog Gallery, a special exhibition called Don't Look Back In Anger will be hosted by Highlight Nation which will see visitors transported back to the final years of the 20th Century. For one night only, guests will be make their way through an interactive evening of retro nostalgia through art, music, drinks, screenings, games, photography, poetry and Pic ‘n’ Mix! Britpop, the Spice Girls, Tamagotchis, double denim and Oasis – what a time to be alive! Picking up on the recent popularity of 90s-themed parties, this truly multimedia evening will bring you back to relive your favourite (or for some your most embarrassing) decade and will also be an opportunity to introduce to some great artists who have been inspired by the great icons of the era.

Mint Street Music Festival in Borough

Head along to Mint Street Park this Saturday for a fun day out at the Mint Street Music Festival. Suitable for the whole famiy, this free event will combine a quality line-up of live music with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere near Borough Tube Station. There will be performances from Anna McAndrew, House Above The Sun, Pioneer Dance, The Bridge Choir and many more. As well as this there will be plenty of music and dance activities for the little ones as well as face-painting and games. You’ll also be able to tuck in some tasty food from Mint Street Jerk, Cariad Café, Cerviche Creativo, Carole’s Cakes and Lucky Cow Ice Cream.
