What’s On This Weekend: The Royal Wedding, Positive Energies & Shape of Light Exhibitions

Royal Wedding 21st Century Tea Dance Party on South Bank

It would be impossible for you not to know about the wedding of the year that takes place this Saturday. For those interested in making the most of celebrating the nuptials of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, there will be numerous events taking place all over London where you can watch and celebrate with friends. The Southbank Centre will be hosting a very special Royal Wedding 21st Century Tea Dance Party for those keen to do something a little more unusual. This free knees-up promises to drag the traditional tea dance ‘kicking and screaming into the twenty-first century’ and will be an enjoyable afternoon of dancing, live music, singalongs, spoken word performances and of course a screening of the wedding itself. Only a short bus away from our Westminster office, if you’re interested in looking at properties to rent or properties to buy in the area, feel free to drop in and hello to our team who would be happy to help.

Visualisation, Mindfulness & Movement Walkshop in Bermondsey

As part of Urban Tree Festival and Chelsea Fringe, Mel Sutton, a yoga and mindfulness teacher will be leading a special ‘walkshop’ this weekend. On this walk, you will start off in the Red Cross Garden and then walk to the nearby Mint Street Park which are both pretty garden spaces managed by Bankside Open Spaces Trust. Surrounded by nature you will be able to explore different ways of experiencing mindfulness. This interactive event will make this a fun and expressive morning with gentle yoga breath and movement, visualization and ways to focus the mind in different ways. This event will give you a toolbox of mindful techniques as you develop your own practice and experience a deeper connection to our surroundings. Suitable for all levels, whether you practice mindfulness or not, this is a lovely and relaxing way to spend your Sunday morning.

Shape of Light 100 Years of Photography and Abstract Art on Bankside

For the first time, Tate Modern tells the intertwined stories of photography and abstract art. Shape of Light is the first major exhibition to explore the relationship between the two, spanning the century from the 1910s to the present day. It brings to life the innovation and originality of photographers over this period, and shows how they responded and contributed to the development of abstraction. Key photographs are being brought together from pioneers of their industry including Man Ray and Alfred Stieglitz, major contemporary artists such as Barbara Kasten and Thomas Ruff, right up to exciting new work by Antony Cairns, Maya Rochat and Daisuke Yokota, which has been made especially for the exhibition. Not too far from our London Bridge office on Bermondsey Street, drop in and say hello if you’re keen to find out more about properties to rent or properties to buy in the surrounding area.

Positive Energies on South Bank

Positive Energies follows on the from the hugely successful Shifting Perspectives exhibition, which explored photographic representation of people with Down’s syndrome, challenging attitudes and prejudices and examining alternative representations of both adults and children. Japanese photographer Fumio Nabata joins forces with Fiona Yaron-Field and Richard Bailey to create an exhibition that asks us to question the society we have created and how this is reflected in the narrowness of mainstream representations of those considered beautiful and valuable. Based in the Oxo Tower, this will be a poignant exhibition worth visiting if you’re wandering along the South Bank. Not too far from our Kennington office, if you're interested in looking at properties to rent or properties to buy drop by and have a chat with one of our team.

National Garden Open Scheme at Garden Barge Square in London Bridge

Every year, 3,700 gardens open to the public as part of the National Garden Scheme which is the most significant charitable funder of nursing charities in the country. So far they have donated over £50 million. They help proud garden owners open their beautiful gardens to the public so that they can share their passion as well as raise money through entry frees and tea and cake. There will be a series of 7 floating barge gardens open to the public at Downings Road Moorings that will be connected by walkways and bridges. The gardens will have an eclectic range of plants for year round seasonal interest. This is a great way to spend your Sunday afternoon with the family and donate to charity.

If you’re interested in finding out more about future events in Westminster, London, Kennington and the surrounding areas, feel free to drop by any of our offices – we’ll be glad to provide you with a list. We can arrange viewings of properties for sale and properties for rent within walking distance of some of these popular venues.
