What’s On This Weekend: Chinese New Year Parade, Valentine’s Doggy Brunch & The Forest of Phantasmagorias

 

Chinese New Year Parade in Trafalgar Square

Every year the West End plays host to the biggest Chinese New Year celebration outside of Asia. This Sunday, the Chinese New Year Parade will start at 10am with a dragon and lion dance on Charing Cross Road. It will then make its way all through Chinatown and will end with a big finale in Trafalgar Square. This is a great way to spend the day with the family as there will be a specalised zone of children in Leicester Square. An opportunity for you to discover more about Chinese culture, why not head to Chinatown for a delicious meal after the parade. The area will be buzzing with life and acitivties on the day. Churchill Guided Tour in Westminster

With the release of the critically acclaimed, award-winning film Darkert Hour featuring Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill, the Houses of Parliament is running A Churchill Season of special events and themed tours. This Saturday will be your final chance to take part in the Churchill Guided Tour, where for 90 minutes a knowledgable Blue Badge guide will take you on a fun and informative tour which has been adapted to focus on Churchill’s long career in Parliament. Highlights of the tour will include a visit to the Commons Chamber and Lords Chamber where Churchill debated many matters of national and international interest. If you’ve ever wanted to know what its like inside the House of Commons, House of Lords and Westminster Hall then this is a great opportunity to discover and learn about arguably Britain’s most famous prime minister.

Valentine’s Doggy Brunch in Victoria

2018 is the year of the dog and it also coincides very closely with Valentine’s Day. The M Restaurant on Victoria Street are putting on a special event called The Valentine’s Doggy Brunch where for just £15 you can take your pooch along to a cooking masterclass with their Executive Chef Michael Reid. Have a tasty lunch with your best pal, take part in a game of ‘Doggy Speed Dating’ and be photographed together in the ‘Pooch Love Seat’. Each dog will get their own 2 course lunch prepared by the Chef meaning you can dine in style with your four-legged friend! in aid of a good cause, a £15 donation will be made to The Dogs Trust on behalf of each dog!

The Forest of Phantasmagorias in Waterloo

As part of the Vault Festival this year, Tinderlust brings you The Forest of Phantasmagorias. Delve into a holographic univerise of mysterious creatures, foreboring tales and phantasmagorias hidden deep within the augmented woods of Aves. Originally premiered at Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition last year, this full length production uses cutting edge holographic technology to create digital mircocosms, and transports the audience into realms where dreams and nightmares intertwine. If you’d like to do something different this weekend and discover a place where the boundaries of reality are eradicated, then head deep underneath Waterloo Station and hopefully you’ll find the stuff of dreams – not nightmares! Dimensions Original Prints in Bermondsey

The Eames Fine Art Gallery on Bermondsey Street are playing host to an exhibition called Dimensions until 25th February. Not many people make know this but many sculptors also make wonderful printermakers. Perhaps their ability to visualize the 3D image from a block is similar to making a sculpture but the owners of the gallery have deicded to put on a exhibiton that celebrates some of their most favourite sculptor printmakers including Elisabeth Frink, Barbard Hepworth, Henry Moore, Anish Kapoor, Antony Gormley and many other modern British sculptors. The Droves in London Bridge

BAFTA awarning winning company Coney present the imaginations of 6-11 years olds in an immersive theatre show called The Droves. This is a show that has been designed by kids for an adult audience. Part immersive experience, part escape game, you will be invited into a secret community of children living deep beneath a derelict carpet factory. For decades they’ve been hiding from adults, growing stranger in the darkness and now they’re inviting you into their space, with unsettling dilemmas, mushroom forests and gorillas! Over the last 3 years, Coney have worked with over 550 young people and have brought the most creative individuals toghether to create The Droves Young Company. On at the COLAB Factory, this is one promising company that it worth the watch.
