What’s On This Weekend: Christmas Family Day, Skate Lates & Snow White: Rotten To The Core

 

Christmas Family Day at Westminster Abbey

This Saturday Westminster Abbey will be opening its historic doors to celebrate Christmas with a special day of events for children and their families. Throughout the morning, helpers will be on hand to show you how to make fun and glittering hand-made decorations that you can take home, which is a great way to get your creative juices flowing. From noon onwards you will be able to a long to all your favourite carols with the choristers of the Abbey’s world famous choir. Following that, you will be treated to an hour of Christmas tales within the setting of the beautiful medieval cloisters. What a perfect way to get you in the mood for the festive season!

Skate Lates in Somerset House

Everyday throughout December, Somerset House will have their infamous ice rink open to the public. However a rink like no other, this year they will bring us a specially curated programme of music with a different DJ taking to the decks to perform their set. You can then take yourself to the Skate Lounge for a drink and to warm where the atmosphere and music will contune. A Fireside Reading of A Christmal Carol in Oval

This weekend, the Holdfast Theatre Company who are famous for their Fireside Readings, will be returning to the Tea House Theatre in Oval for a special Christmas edition Fireside Reading of A Christmas Carol. Originally written by Charles Dickens, this story is a ghost-like tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, an old miser who is visited by the ghost of his old business partner as well as the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future. This enchanted tale is a classic and a great way to you in the mood for Christmas. Exploring the traditions of old such as carol singing as well as newer traditions like the Christmas Tree, this is a tale that can be enjoyed by everyone and is a fun and different way to spend your Sunday evening. Snow White: Rotten To The Core in Vauxhall

The Above The Stag Theatre is an award-winning LGBT+ theatre based in Vauxhall and is famous for their critically acclaimed panto team. This year they will be yet again weaving their magic on the much-loved fairytale of Snow White. Set in Lumley-by-Gosh (a former London borough), the vile queen grows jealous of a handsome young man called Snow White. Sent into the woods, he stumbles into an empty little cottage where he decides to hide. But will Snow White meet his prince? This adult-only version of the classic will bring laughter, cheers, boos and maybe even a sing along. These previously sold out shows will be a fun way to spend your Saturday night and bring back fond memories of childhood.

Apres London in Southwark

Are you sad you won’t get the chance to his the Alps this winter? Or perhaps you need something to keep you going until your next ski holiday. What better way to get in the right mood than with Apres London. This is an authentic wooden ski chalet that will be popping up in the garden of Flat Iron Square, transporting you from the South Bank to the Southern Alps! Demo Kitchen: Grand Tour in Borough

Demo Kitchen, which is a regular feature of Borough Market plays host to a calendar of various chefs presenting their latest discoveries and dishes. This weekend, Hayden, who is a Demo Kitchen regular will be presenting some of the delicious dishes he recorded in his book about his amazing summer experience of doing not one, but three grands tours – the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France and the Vuelta a Espana. Covering 10,403km cycling across Europe, Hayden managed to raise an astonishing £1 million for a new haematology centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Birmingham. His menu will include Arancini, Cassoulet and some delicious Churros with a bitter chocolate sauce, so head down to Borough Market on Friday lunchtime if you’re feeling hungry!
