Bermondsey Street Festival 2024: Celebrating 18 Years of Resilience, Community, and Joyful Traditions

The 18th edition of the Bermondsey Street Festival is back to celebrate nearly two decades of bringing the community together. Local residents and independent businesses are joining forces to create a fun-filled day out for everyone. Soak up the electric atmosphere as the street closes to cars and fills with street performers, live music and craft stalls. The festival will also feature food and goods vendors to complement the boutique shops and independent restaurants that line the street.

Bermondsey Street Festival saved by the community

Local business owners and residents, under the leadership of Gena Johns, Director of London Glassblowing, supported by George Cobb, Managing Director, Daniel Cobb, are hosting the event. In fact, Daniel Cobb estate agents have sponsored the event for many years. Stepping up in place of the original organiser, Bill Owen, who took a step back this year, they will showcase the talent and creativity of Bermondsey Street. This will create many chances to bag some bargains while enjoying all that the festival has to offer.

Here’s everything you need to know about Bermondsey Street, the festival and its people.

A vibrant marketplace on Bermondsey Street

Enjoy the bustling and energetic atmosphere with an endless choice of crafts, art, and goods. Meet the talented and creative people who independently manufacture jewellery, soap, clothing, homeware, cards, pottery, and much more. Culinary experiences

Whet your appetite with locally sourced seasonal and sustainable foods and diverse international cuisine. Choose from food stalls offering everything from breakfast, freshly baked pastries, interesting cheeses, and Pan-Asian sharing plates—this is just a taste of what’s on offer. Dine in independent restaurants and wash it all down with fine wine, a cocktail, a coffee, or a craft beer, thanks to some of the finest purveyors in London.

A lively day out

Take in the live music stage from a village fete-like setting located in the middle of London and dance the day away in a friendly and inviting atmosphere with great company.

There will be lots of fun for the entire family with street entertainment, the Holly & Lil Dog Show, poetry, and a musical theatre experience for younger family members. It promises to be a lively day out for people of all ages, and that’s before you even get to the Maypole dance.

Celebrating wellbeing, community and tradition

This year will also see a new peaceful oasis and green spaces dedicated to relaxation, physical health, and increasing wellbeing. The festival celebrates inclusivity with a beautiful sense of community and multiculturalism.

The festival, now in its 18th year, is growing from strength to strength as each year passes, and this year promises to be the best ever. Many people return again and again to build on the wonderful experiences and memories of past years while forging new friendships.

A sustainable future

Much of the artisan goods and produce are crafted with sustainability in mind. In fact, the entire festival places this as one of its core values. You will find recycled goods and a real connection to nature in the city.

All are welcome to the Bermondsey Street Festival 2024, which takes place on the 21 September from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is close to transport links. You also have the opportunity to get involved as a sponsor or as a volunteer.
