Tower Bridge closure may end before Christmas

Closure of the Tower Bridge has impacted residents of London properties who use this bridge to commute frequently

Paul Monaghan, the City of London Corporation's Assistant Director of Engineering, has told local community leaders that maintenance work on Tower Bridge is already ahead of schedule and he is hoping that the road will reopen before Christmas.

Local residents were told that the bridge, which closed to traffic in early October, would remain shut for three months while the City of London Corporation's repair team replaced the timber decking on the bridge's bascules. The closure has already caused controversy, as Southwark Council claims it was not officially told of the Corporation's intentions until five months after the plans were first made public. There were also concerns that diversions would cause traffic to back up in local streets, but TfLs Network Assessment Manager, Mufu Durowoju, has said "my understanding is that the congestion has not been as bad as we initially thought. Its encouraging to see that the CLC is committed to speeding up the work."
