When Londoner Laura Evelyn went to view a room for rent, she was shocked to receive a list of 31 house rules from the landlord. These included fines of £100 for using extra heaters in the bedrooms, penalties for leaving dishes in the sink, and a 15-minute limit for showers. The time allocated for cooking was just 30 minutes and tenants were only allowed visitors if they had been approved by the landlord, two weeks in advance. Needless to say, she didn’t take the room.
