What’s on this weekend: Milky Peaks, The F Word and The Crystal Land
Milky Peaks by Seiriol Davies at the Oval House in Kennington
Milky Peaks is part of Ovalhouse's FiRST BiTES series of new performance pieces that are being presented by Seiriol Davis over the next couple of months. Seiriol Davies has previously performed at the Ovalhouse with his award-winning sell out show called How To Win Against History. The show is about how an arts administrator hides the secrets of her past and her relation to the Mafia and how a drag queen fights for survival in a changing world. This is a musical about community and how far we'll go to create and protect it. Showing this weekend only, Ovalhouse is only a short walk from our Kennington office, so if you are keen to view properties in the surrounding area drop in at any time.
The F Word at the Oxo Tower in Southbank
Only a short walk down the river from our London Bridge office, is The F Word, an exhibition that is being held in the gallery of the Oxo Tower. The Forgiveness Project is a charity that use real life stories of forgiveness, empathy and compassion in order to build understanding, encourage reflection and enable people to reconcile with their own pain and move forward with their lives. The F Word explores the journeys of meaning and hope through personal narratives. Examining how to deal with cycles of conflict, violence, crime and injustice, the exhibition is accompanied with talks and story-telling events.
The Crystal Land at White Cube in Bermondsey
Not far from our London Bridge office on Bermondsey Street, you will find White Cube, a gallery with various international hubs that opened in 2011 and has since played host to many important exhibitions as well as an accompanying education programme. This weekend, they will be presenting The Crystal Land, an exhibition by Josiah McElheny. This exhibition will narrate a decade of the artist's efforts to visualise alternative histories of Modernism through various types of media such as sculpture, painting, film, photograms and posters. It will show McElheny's view point that 'reconstructing history' can be a creating process in itself and aesthetics are always political. Drop into our office, only moments away, if you are keen to look at properties in the area.
The Peña Flamenca de Londres at Church Hall of the Holy Apostles in Pimlico
Once a month, the Church Hall of the Holy Apostles in Pimlico is transformed into a southern Spanish bar where Flamenco dancing comes to life. This weekend, the Peña Flamenca de Londres will be presenting an extraordinary evening of Flamenco, with top-class performers who have travelled from Granada for this event. This show will include the appearance of Spain's 12 year-old dancing phenomenon, Sara Sanchez as well as performances from two of Flamenco's famous dancing families who have been living and breathing Flamenco for many generations. If you're interested in looking at properties in the Pimlico area, visit our Westminster office which is only a short bus ride away.
Anyone Can Whistle at Union Theatre in Southwark
This weekend, the Union Theatre in Southwark presents Anyone Can Whistle, a musical adaptation of a book written by Arthur Laurents. This comedy tells the story of a small town that goes bankrupt, because its only industry is in manufacturing something that never wears out and needs to be replaced. In order to save the town from failing, the mayor and the council fake a miracle of water flowing from a rock, in an attempt to attract tourists. When patients from the local mental hospital escape, chaos ensues. Filled with classic Sondheim music numbers, the show proves to be a fun way to spend an afternoon this weekend and is only a short walk across the bridge from our Westminster office.
Beyond Borders at the London College of Communication in Elephant & Castle
Beyond Borders is a collaborative exhibition between the London College of Communication and the Migrants Resource Centre. Over the course of time, rulers and politicians have imposed various borders on their countries in order to control people's freedom of movement, delineating citizens by geography, nationality, faith and various other aspects. This exhibition presents a collection of work that focuses on the impact on the lives of those people who have been caught up in the battle for control over borders and people. There are also stories of how people have been able to rebuild their lives afterwards through their fluidity and resilience. This thought-provoking exhibition is not far from our Kennington office, so drop in to view our current properties in this area.
