What’s On This Weekend: Feria de Londres, Soapbox Science and The Incredible Edible Lambeth Walk

 

Feria de Londres at Potters Fields Park in London Bridge

If you are a fan of Spanish food and culture, or perhaps you’re longing for that summer holiday, then hop along to the Feria de Londres in Potters Fields Park running all weekend. The first of its kind, the Feria de Londres is set to bring the lively and vibrant celebrations of the Andalusian region to the banks of the River Thames. There will be plenty of dancing, music and live entertainment as well as typical delicious dishes to taste and drinks to sip on. There will be people in their finest traditional costume and the public are encouraged to get involved and dress for the occasion too. If you fancy some tasty food or the chance to take part in an outdoor flamenco lesson, then this is the place to be! Draw and Tour Southwark Cathedral’s Monuments in Southwark

On Saturday morning, Southwark Cathedral are putting on an event where budding artists can come along and take a tour of the monuments and tombs within. Whilst exploring the history of the Cathedral, artists will have the opportunity to sketch some of the monuments and glorious architecture of this astonishing place of worship. You will be escorted around by one of the very knowledgeable Cathedral Guides who will share stories behind the monuments as well as the people who are remembered within them. The tour will last for an hour, giving you plenty of time to sketch throughout the tour. With only limited spaces available for this tour, this is creative and educational way to spend your Saturday morning.

Soapbox Science on Southbank

This Saturday Soapbox Science comes to London’s Southbank. Soapbox Science is a public outreach platform that promotes female scientists and allowing to show the public what they do, whilst also acting as a public arena for learning and scientific debate. This is an opportunity for the scientists to showcase their projects and latest discoveries to the public and to bring awareness to gender inequality in science by challenging the public’s view of women and science. Entering its 7th year, this is also a great way to get the kids interested and excited about science and to question and probe some of the world’s leading scientists! The Incredible Edible Lambeth Walk in Kennington

The Chelsea Fringe Festival is the alternative festival to the renowned Chelsea Flower Show. With events taking part all over London, it allows other areas of London and the UK to take part in enjoying everything horticultural from guerilla gardeners, community projects, large-scale installations, food events, performing arts and much, much more! The Incredible Edible Lambeth Walk is an inspirational guided walk through lots of green spaces that have been loved and cared for by the local community. Starting at the Museum Garden, the tour will move through Old Paradise Street, Pedlar’s Park, Vauxhall City Farm and ending in Bonnington Square. The tour, which runs from 12-3pm, will be led my Sue Sheehan from Incredible Edible Lambeth and will be a great way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon!

Lucy Beech & Edward Thomasson: Together at Tate Britain on Millbank

Art Now at Tate Britain is a series of exhibitions that focus on new and recent work by emerging artists. As part of this series, Lucy Beech and Edward Thomasson will be presenting a new performance project that takes place in two parts and explores ideas surrounding cooperation and independence. The recording of the performances will be showing in the gallery throughout the week but to get the full effect, you should take yourself along to the live performance of the piece on Saturday afternoon. Working in couples, a group of performers will collectively create a safe space to momentarily reject shared social standards. This exhibition is free and is only a short walk along the Thames from our Westminster office. I Musicanti at St John’s Smith Square in Westminster

This Sunday, at St John’s Smith Square in Westminster, I Musicanti will be performing in the final concert of their series. The concert will feature new music from South Africa, as well as classic works from Mozart and Schubert. The director and double bass virtuoso, Leon Bosch will be introducing David Earl’s addition to the viola double-bass section. If you enjoy listening to classical music and want to hear some new sounds and pieces as well as some old favourites, Sunday afternoon will be the perfect time for you to relax and enjoy an intimate concert located in this beautiful Westminster venue.
