The London Marathon in Westminster
The Virgin Money Loncon Marathon arrives once again on Sunday, with more than 38,000 people taking part this year. Going a long to be a spectator will prove to be a fun and free date out for the family, especially if you know someone running for personal achievement or supporting a charity. Between 1981 and 2016, participants have raised more than £830 million, including £59.4 million in 2016. With the race stretching over 26.2 miles of London, there will be plenty of spots for you to spectate from including Westminster! Only a short walk from our Westminster office, you will be able to view racers head towards the finish line once they have passed by Westminster bridge. Feast of St. George at Borough Market
This Sunday between 12 and 4pm Borough Market will be celebrating the feast of St. George through food, music, storytelling and theatre as well as a visit from the Market's Catalonion friends, where St. George is also a patron saint of the region. As patron saint of shepherds, farmers and butchers, it seems fitting that Borough Market will celebrate this day with lots of festivities. Traders will sell special themed products on the day and there will be free cookery demonstrations throughout the day. A perfect way to learn more about English and Catalan traditions, this is will a fun and tasty day out. Ashley Bickerton: Ornamental Hysteria at Newport Street Gallery in Lambeth
Only a ten minute walk away from our Kennington office, is the Newport Street Gallery who will be opening their new exhibition Ashley Bickerton: Ornamental Hysteria for the first time this weekend. Part of the New York East Village art scene, Ashley Bickerton became famous for his vibrant and abstract works that offered a satirical critique of contemporary consumer culture. This exhibition will be a survey of his 30 year long career from his 80's New York pieces to his tropical-inspired paintings when he moved to Bali in 1993 as well as his artwork from the last few years. Beefeater Sip-Hop at Beefeater Distellery in Kennington
This weekend, the Beefeater Distillery which is only round the corner from our Kennington office are putting on a street dance showcase called Beefeater Sip-Hop. Guests will enjoy two free cocktails made by world class mixologists, along with two excerpts from Smother, a critically-acclaimed hip-hop show within the iconic gin distillery. This one-off experience for guests is set to be an unforgettable celebration of the city's creativity, contemporary culture and diversity. Guests will have the opportunity to donate money to the City & Guilds of London Art School; a not-for-profit, specialist higher education institution also based in Kennington.
Sister Act Choir Live at Central Hall in Westminster
Are you a fan of the Whoopi Goldberg classic film, Sister Act? Then don't miss out on this unique musical and cinematic experience to watch the film and the Sister Act Live Choir at the spectacular and historic Central Hall in Westminster. Only a short walk from our Westminster office, this immersive evening will allow you to sing-a-long with other fans as the film is displayed on a 30 foot screen, with an accompanying 35 piece gospel choir who will be performing the famous film soundtrack. Hosted by Amacoast Cinema, there will also be special guest performances from MOBO Award Nominee act Volney Morgan and New-Ye and also Britain's Got Talent's Gospel Singers Incognito.
The Radial Eye: Modernist Photography from the Sir Elton John Collection at Tate Modern, Bankside
Not everyone will know that when Elton John isn't writing or singing world famous pop songs, he has a strong passion for collection modernist photography. This special exhibition at the Tate Modern, will have on display a selection from one of the world's greatest private art collections in history, which is said to have more than 8000 pieces of artwork. This staggering collection of some of the most important photography from the classic modernist period of the 1920's to 1950's, is usually kept well hidden behind closed doors, so this is a great opportunity for photography lovers and art lovers alike to experience and enjoy Elton John's personal collection. There will be Man Ray portraits exhibited together for the first time as well as portraits of Matisse, Picasso and Breton.
